Putrajaya to become extreme sports hub

Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) is planning to make the Putrajaya Base Jump, an extreme sports event, as one of the tourism products in the federal territory.

Its president, Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim said the plan was in line with PPj’s intention to promote Putrajaya as a sports city and subsequently an extreme sports hub as the buildings in the federal territory are suitable for such extreme sports.

“In the future, we want more sports activities to be organised here, with an average of 15,000 to 17,000 people who come to Putrajaya every weekend for sports and recreation activities, ” he told the media after witnessing a BASE Jump event in conjunction with the Putrajaya Silver Jubilee Celebration recently.

A total of seven jumpers were involved in the feat at the Monorail Suspension Bridge, which was held in conjunction with Putrajaya’s 25th anniversary and the 63rd National Day celebration.

Putrajaya was established on Aug 29,1995.Meanwhile, motorcycle convoy groups have been urged to assist the Ministry of tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) in promoting domestic tourism with content creations when visiting tourist areas.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Syukri said participants in motorcycle convoy activities that explore tourist destinations could become the ministry’s ambassador to promote tourist spots, popular food and the country’s cultural heritage.

“I call on you to take this opportunity to ‘compete’ to create contents to promote tourist attractions, popular food and not to forget the country’s cultural heritage. Be a storyteller or ambassador for the tourism industry, arts and culture.

“The motorcycle convoys should tell their experiences (create contents) on social media to attract more people to travel in the country and boost the local economy, ” she said.

She was speaking at the Semarak Merdeka Convoy flagging off ceremony in conjunction with the 2020 Promoting Domestic tourism and National Month at the Malaysian Tourism Centre recently.

Also present were Fast Bikes Club chairman Fadzlaini Ibrahim and Reappear Motorcycle Club chairman Mohd Hemy Azizan.

A total of 91 high-powered motorcyclists from the Fast Bikes Club and Reappear Motorcycle Club nationwide convoyed to three districts in Melaka for three days recently to enliven the National month celebration and promote attractive tourist destinations.
